Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers, by Nancy Amanda Redd

"You’d think a Miss America swimsuit winner would feel completely confident about her body, right? Not always! So I decided to write the book I wish I’d had as a teen and in college—an honest, funny, practical, medically accurate, totally reassuring guide to how women’s bodies actually look, smell, feel, behave, and change. Alongside real-deal photographs of women just like you and me (no airbrushing, no supermodels, no kidding) you’ll find medical pictures of things you need to be able to recognize, true confessions by yours truly, and the encouragement you need to appreciate the uniqueness, strength, and beauty of your body. What are you waiting for?"—Nancy Redd

From fashion magazines to taboo Web sites, curious young women have access to tons of old wives' tales about and thousands of airbrushed and inaccurate images of the female body—misinformation and harmful portrayals that can lead to low self-esteem, self-destructive acts, or even disturbing plastic surgery procedures. Teaming up with a leading physician specializing in adolescent health issues, Harvard graduate and former Miss Virginia Nancy Redd now offers a down-to-earth, healing, and reassuring response to those damaging myths. In Body Drama, Redd gives girls insight into the issues they're often too ashamed to raise with a doctor or parent. She also reveals her own experiences with the culture of "American beauty," and shows readers all the many versions of "normal." From body hair and bras, to acne and weight issues, along with crucial issues such as the importance of a healthy self image, Body Drama is a groundbreaking book packed with informative fast facts, FYIs, how-tos, and moving personal anecdotes as well as hundreds of un-retouched photographs. A highly visual book, it’s the first of its kind for women: filled with real information and real photographs of real bodies, to celebrate all our different shapes and sizes.

Named by Glamour magazine as one of America’s top-ten college women "most likely to succeed—at anything," Redd has spent the most recent years of her life on a mission to tackle the issues least discussed but most significant in young women’s lives. Celebrating the many versions of "normal," and replacing seriously erroneous information with the honest, medically proven truth in a language all girls can understand, Body Drama dares to empower a new generation—with facts instead of fantasies, and the priceless gift of self-knowledge.

Perfect for my pre-teens
By Christine
Extremely well written book with lots of appropriate photos. Nancy Redd goes into very tasteful detail re: menstruation, piercings, vaginitis, contraception, normal variations in body types (including genital), sex etc. I'm in OB/Gyn and find this a perfect book to just have casually placed on bookshelf. I have 2 daughters, 12 and 14, who don't want to hear about any of this from me, but I know they're reading it (because they don't put it back on the shelf) and getting good information.
Thank you Nancy!

Every woman and especially young woman should have a copy of this book
By S. Shames
This is such a fabulous book, I want to buy a copy for every 13-18 year old girl in this country. It has pictures of women of all colors and sizes, which is so rare in this restrictive media world we live in. And it provides honest, frank, and even sometimes personalized discussions about things that it is so hard for young women (and women in general!) to ask each other about or to find good information on. It has sections on "shape," "skin," "down there," "boobs," and "hair and nails," with each showing a variety of pictures and talking about various possible problems, worries, or conditions that affect women and their bodies. It's like the "Our Bodies, Our Selves" for a new generation! Thanks so much to Nancy Redd for this, I am immediately sending copies to my teenage girl cousins, and also to a few adult women I know...!

perfect for girls and women
By Picklesmurphy1
This is a wonderful reference for girls. It answers questions they may not even know they have yet. The variety of subjects covered is quite broad and thorough. It has paths for individuals to guide them whether they have an adult to talk with or not. It has just enough information without preaching or pretending to know everything. It is written in a manner that girls will hopefully read the entire book. It doesn't read like a textbook. A nice touch of humor is incorporated. I am glad I purchased this for my 3 tween/teenage girls.

Dragnet Nation: A Quest for Privacy, Security, and Freedom in a World of Relentless Surveillance, by Julia Angwin

An inside look at who's watching you, what they know and why it matters. We are being watched.
We see online ads from websites we've visited, long after we've moved on to other interests. Our smartphones and cars transmit our location, enabling us to know what's in the neighborhood but also enabling others to track us. And the federal government, we recently learned, has been conducting a massive data-gathering surveillance operation across the Internet and on our phone lines.
In "Dragnet Nation," award-winning investigative journalist Julia Angwin reports from the front lines of America's surveillance economy, offering a revelatory and unsettling look at how the government, private companies, and even criminals use technology to indiscriminately sweep up vast amounts of our personal data. In a world where we can be watched in our own homes, where we can no longer keep secrets, and where we can be impersonated, financially manipulated, or even placed in a police lineup, Angwin argues that the greatest long-term danger is that we start to internalize the surveillance and censor our words and thoughts, until we lose the very freedom that makes us unique individuals. Appalled at such a prospect, Angwin conducts a series of experiments to try to protect herself, ranging from quitting Google to carrying a "burner" phone, showing how difficult it is for an average citizen to resist the dragnets' reach.
Her book is a cautionary tale for all of us, with profound implications for our values, our society, and our very selves.

Review

“Welcome to life in a society of ubiquitous surveillance, tracking and data mining... Angwin, a Wall Street Journal reporter who along with her colleagues has produced essential reporting on privacy and security … aims to illuminate the costs of living with systems that track nearly everything we do, think or say… [and] she performs a herculean effort to regain her privacy… A useful, well-reported study.” ―The Los Angeles Times

“I read Julia Angwin's new book Dragnet Nation… I heartily recommend it to you… [The book is an] antidote to Big Brother's big chill.” ―Bill Moyers

“A deeply researched book that is completely of the moment. Dragnet Nation moves right to the top of the list of books we should all read about privacy.” ―Salon

“Angwin's warning that ‘information is power' resonates.” ―The Daily Beast

“Angwin elegantly chronicles this tragedy of the digital commons at the level of policy and our individual civil liberties…Dragnet Nation really kicks in--and becomes a blast to read--when she fights back…If enough people follow Angwin's lead, new networks of computer users might manage to open up ever larger holes in the dragnet world.” ―Bookforum

“Entertaining… Pacy and eye-opening.” ―The Financial Times

“Angwin, a longtime reporter on digital privacy issues for the Wall Street Journal, releases the contemporary (and, unfortunately, nonfiction) companion book to Orwell's 1984. Dragnet Nation examines the surveillance economy and its effect on free speech and thought, likely causing readers to rethink the next words they type into a search engine.” ―LA Weekly

“[Angwin is] a privacy ninja.” ―Yahoo!'s Tech Modern Family

“Informative, conversational… [Angwin's] travails educate her (and her readers) about all the ways privacy-minded developers are working to develop anti-surveillance tools, and this forms a helpful guide for readers seeking non-jargony information on minimizing their digital footprints.” ―Columbia Journalism Review

“A new hot-button issue that touches both politics and business is privacy, and the erosion of privacy is examined in Dragnet Nation.” ―Publishers Weekly (Top 10 Business & Economics Books)

“Fascinating ... Angwin, who spent years covering privacy issues for the Wall Street Journal, draws on conversations with researchers, hackers and IT experts, surveying the modern dragnet tracking made possible by massive computing power, smaller devices and cheap storage of data...A solid work for both privacy freaks and anyone seeking tips on such matters as how to strengthen passwords.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“In this thought-provoking, highly accessible exploration of the issues around personal data-gathering, Julia Angwin provides a startling account of how we're all being tracked, watched, studied, and sorted. Her own (often very funny) attempts to maintain her online privacy demonstrate the ubiquity of the dragnet--and the near impossibility of evading it. I'll never use Google in the same way again.” ―Gretchen Rubin, bestselling author of Happier at Home and The Happiness Project

“Julia Angwin's pathbreaking reporting for the Wall Street Journal about online tracking changed the privacy debate. Her new book represents another leap forward: by showing how difficult it was to protect her own privacy and vividly describing the social and personal costs, Angwin offers both a wakeup call and a thoughtful manifesto for reform. This is a meticulously documented and gripping narrative about why privacy matters and what we can do about it.” ―Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO, National Constitution Center, and author of The Unwanted Gaze and The Naked Crowd

“Dragnet Nation is an impressive picture of the new world of electronic surveillance -- from Google to the NSA. Julia Angwin's command of the technology is sure, her writing is clear, and her arguments are compelling. This is an authoritative account of why we should care about privacy and how we can protect ourselves.” ―Bruce Schneier, author of Liars and Outliers: Enabling the Trust That Society Needs to Thrive

“Dragnet Nation is a fascinating, compelling, and powerful read. Many of us would simply prefer not to know how much others know about us, and yet Julia Angwin opens a door onto that dark world in a way that both raises a new set of public issues and canvasses a range of solutions. We can reclaim our privacy while still enjoying the benefits of many types of surveillance – but only if we take our heads out of the sand and read this book.” ―Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and CEO, New America

Interesting read with good tips for protecting your privacy.
By Chris
This is an important book and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. For those of concerned about privacy, it's a useful read.
The book is structured like a memoir. The author was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal. Refreshingly, she's a married mom with two kids. I say this because, normally the people writing about government surveillance and privacy issues are single, white men. She begins the book with a brief review of privacy and government violation of it from the beginning of the republic to now. The rest of the book is taken up with her mission to retake as much of her privacy as possible and leave the smallest possible digital footprint.
She finds that it is no easy task retaking your personal information from the data brokers. We are constantly tracked while online. "Anonymous" profiles of people are assembled by these data brokers based on what websites people visit. Based on the information they collect, they'll present you with ads based on your presumed interests. More detailed profiles of people are assembled and used to determine what prices you see for say insurance or plane tickets.
This book was a real eye-opener for me. I took for granted that my moves online were tracked, but I had no idea to the degree which it is done. Most troubling is this data industry is completely unregulated. Once they have your data, you cannot compel them to reveal what they know or to delete their data on you. The only exception to this is your credit score.
I dog-eared and underlined quite a few sections in this book because she has practical tips for minimizing your exposure. I hope that if this book goes to a paperback edition, she'll assemble some of the more useful tips into a single section at the end of the book.
I think the author's conclusion to her book is a bit Pollyannaish. She argues that pollution used to be much worse in the US (an example she sites are rivers bursting into flames, and that for the most part rivers are much cleaner). Pollution is a non-specific problem like the privacy problem, but people got together and encouraged Congress to pass laws that prevent the dumping of chemicals in our rivers. I disagree. I think people have gotten too inured to having little privacy. I see things getting much worse and staying that way. People voluntarily join facebook and are happy to share nearly everything about their lives (I'm looking at you people that post pictures of your food).
My one complaint about this book is her brief reference to bookstores. "Similarly, I used to go to my local bookstore and buy books in cash. Now, all the bookstores are dying, and Amazon is my local bookstore." If you order on Amazon because of the convenience or the prices, fine, it's understandable. But don't pretend like you would still go to your local bookstore if it hadn't closed. You stopped going because of the uber convenience of Amazon. Furthermore, this author lives in New York City, and there are no independent bookstores left in New York City, really?
But aside from my tirade on this minor thing, the book is excellent and I would recommend it to those concerned about their privacy.
I received an advanced reader's copy of this book from the publisher. So take that for what you will.

HONESTY CAN BE AN UNPLEASANT WAY OF LEARNING THE TRUTH
By Robert Steven Thomas
In an age of drones, spy satellites, internet espionage, GPS and cell phone tapping conducted by most of the worlds leading nations (and also many international criminal organizations) ... how can we decent individuals protect our privacy? You may be shocked at how little is actually left available to us as a result of this book's well-researched and outstandingly informative presentation. On one side there is a legitimate need for our governments to protect us from terrorism, identity-theft and international scamming. At the other end is the reasonable desire for most individuals to demand a right to privacy and individual freedoms. At what point, exactly, should collective societal safety trump individual rights? As you will discover in this excellent book, there is a very fine line of difference that separates the two. So how do we protect ourselves? The author has provided a thoughtful and potentially well-constructed answer to this difficult challenge. It is one that can work and involves participation from us all. The more people who are aware of this strategy - the better we will all sleep at night.

Should be required reading for all Americans
By B&D
Privacy is a hot topic in the news of late. This book goes right to the heart of this issue. The writing is excellent. Julia Angwin speaks from and describes her own experiences with all aspects of the subject. She places her story in the context of her life and her own family. I appreciate this personal touch and the relationship to real life. Too often non-fiction books of this sort present a logical and scholarly analysis of the problem that is difficult to relate to one's own life. This book does not do that; it is relevant.

I am a technically savvy person only to an average degree. But I could tell from her discussion that the author is not seriously techie about any of the subjects she discussed. Advanced dissertations on the topics in the book was not what I was looking for when I bought the book, and if that is what you want, this is not the book for you. However, if you want to understand how privacy in your life has been impacted by government and industry, then this book is a must read.

The Racial Contract, by Charles W. Mills

The Racial Contract puts classic Western social contract theory, deadpan, to extraordinary radical use. With a sweeping look at the European expansionism and racism of the last five hundred years, Charles W. Mills demonstrates how this peculiar and unacknowledged "contract" has shaped a system of global European domination: how it brings into existence "whites" and "non-whites," full persons and sub-persons, how it influences white moral theory and moral psychology; and how this system is imposed on non-whites through ideological conditioning and violence. The Racial Contract argues that the society we live in is a continuing white supremacist state.

Holding up a mirror to mainstream philosophy, this provocative book explains the evolving outline of the racial contract from the time of the New World conquest and subsequent colonialism to the written slavery contract, to the "separate but equal" system of segregation in the twentieth-century United States. According to Mills, the contract has provided the theoretical architecture justifying an entire history of European atrocity against non-whites, from David Hume's and Immanuel Kant's claims that blacks had inferior cognitive power, to the Holocaust, to the kind of imperialism in Asia that was demonstrated by the Vietnam War.

Mills suggests that the ghettoization of philosophical work on race is no accident. This work challenges the assumption that mainstream theory is itself raceless. Just as feminist theory has revealed orthodox political philosophy's invisible white male bias, Mills's explication of the racial contract exposes its racial underpinnings.

Review

"Mills uses the idea of the social contract to argue that racially structured discrimination is a norm, rather than a deviation from the ideal. . . . Framed by a lucid discussion of the modern global exploitation of nonwhites is Mills's appeal to standpoint epistemology to maintain that the racial contract is a naturalized version of social contract theory."―Choice

"An ambitious book. . . . Mill's racial contract thesis is so convincing that one wonders why it hasn't been explored until now in the precincts of mainstream political philosophy. But that's his point. The racial contract's effectiveness lies in its very invisibility."―In These Times

"This compelling and even explosive book argues that white racism is itself a political system with its own levels of rights, duties, benefits, burdens, etc. . . . Sure to provoke a heated debate far beyond the field of political philosophy, this bold and wide-ranging study makes a clear and convincing case for the view that systematic racial oppression was not an anomaly sullying otherwise universalistic assumptions about individual rights, but the context in which theorizing about such rights occurred."―The Front Table

"An important work of philosophy that is at the same time short and accessible. . . . Mills succeeds admirably in arguing his case for the existence of a racial contract. That he can do this in a way that is rigorous, passionate, and accessible is an important achievement."―Philosophy in Review

"The Racial Contract is an excellent book. . . . It is a testament to Mills's expertise as a philosopher, a scholar, and a downright intelligent writer that he has managed to pull off so comprehensive, informative, and persuasive a work in an elegant 133 pages (excluding notes). . . . He achieves this explanation through some of the clearest prose I have encountered in recent philosophical literature."―Lewis Gordon, Small Axe: A Journal of Criticism

"A very important book. . . . The Racial Contract has the potential to radically challenge many of us to reevaluate how we think about social contract theory. As well, to take the arguments that Mills makes is to be prepared to rethink about the concept of race and the structure of our political systems. This is a very important book indeed, and should be a welcome addition to the ongoing discussions surrounding social contract theory."―Teaching Philosophy

"This is a significant and compelling work. . . . Mills turns our attention to the racial domination and exploitation that have been equally pervasive features of the history of liberalism. . . . A major contribution."―Ethics

"Offers a bold conceptualization of the racial order and a critique of the way it has been (mis)represented within the domain of scholarship. . . . Mills cuts through the shibboleths and the mystifications that pervade both popular and academic discourse on race. . . . The Racial Contract offers a theoretical framework that ought to serve as the starting point for any serious study of race in American society. . . . At a time when 'the epistemology of ignorance' is ascendant, we can be grateful for a book that speaks the unpalatable truth."―American Journal of Sociology

"Courageously creative"―Social Theory and Practice

"I recommend this book as an important and timely reminder of the ways in which a philosophy which ignores race is bound up with the privileging of whiteness. This is a lesson that is still to be learnt, even within the contect of feminist philosophy."―Women's Philosophy Review

"Mills's work on the Racial Contract is a major contribution to modern critical social and political thought, and will become an important, widely discussed work. It exposes, to devastating effect, the unacknowledged racial presuppositions of the entire social contract tradition, which is to say, all of liberal political theory for the past four centuries."―Robert Paul Wolff, University of Massachusetts, Amherst

"Fish don't see water, men don't see patriarchy, and white philosophers don't see white supremacy. We can do little about fish. Carole Pateman and others have made the sexual contract visible for those who care to look. Now Charles Mills has made it equally clear how whites dominate people of color, even (or especially) when they have no such intention. He asks whites not to feel guilty, but rather to do something much more difficult―understand and take responsibility for a structure which they did not create but still benefit from."―Jennifer Hochschild, Princeton University

"Like Melville's Benito Cereno, this short, explosive book unflinchingly explores the centrality of race―both in its utterly open brutality and in its remarkable ability to remain hidden―to the history of the Western nation-state. Sure to provoke a heated debate far beyond the field of political philosophy, this bold and wide-ranging study makes a clear and convincing case for the view that systemic racial oppression was not an anomaly sullying otherwise universalistic assumptions about individual rights, but the context in which theorizing about such rights occurred."―David Roediger, University of Minnesota

"This is a significant and compelling work. In the modest compass of an extended essay, Mills succeeds in altering our view of a central strand of modern political thought, the social contract tradition. Inspired by the historical success of socialist critics in placing class and socioeconomic inequality on the political-theoretical agenda and by the ongoing success of feminist critics in doing the same for gender and patriarchy, Mills turns our attention to the racial domination and exploitation that have been equally pervasive features of the history of liberalism."―Thomas McCarthy, Northwestern University

Superb and revelatory book but recommend further reading
By Viktor Volk
As a white guy formerly unaware/in denial of the structural racism that's still going strong in society, this book really helped me to understand both this and the other inequalities of society. Other reviewers have definitely done the book justice, but I will also recommend that one reads after this Racism without Racists by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, because as much as Mills does an excellent job of communicating the gist of white supremacy and racist ideology, one might still subscribe to elements of the racial ideology if they are not aware of what it constitutes. Racism without Racists fills in the blanks that this book necessarily leaves in order to achieve its "punchy" nature and widespread reading.

The Philosophy That Rules Them All
By M. Rasheed
I’m a big fan of a few authors whose great work involves making sense of the massive stockpile of collected historical data by spotlighting the logic thread that connects chunks of it into potent influential viewpoints. The Racial Contract by Charles Mills is the one that rules them all, with the author revealing the foundational support structure upon which all Western philosophy and formal moral ethics theory is based. Pointedly, Mills reminds us that Immanuel Kant thought I was a subhuman, and he is the most important moral theorist in all of western thought. If you can imagine the movie The Matrix, this book functions like a “what the Matrix is, how it functions the way it does, and how we can free ourselves from it” bible. It's intended to be the long missing component of Western Philosophy, a topic which can never be fully understood without seeing it properly through the lens of 'whites-exploiting-nonwhites' that it was created from in the first place.

The world is the way it is today directly because of the global domination of the Europeans conquering, colonializing, and enslavement of non-Europeans under a White Supremacist banner (originally Christian, but it quickly morphed away from that, since the exploited could always just convert their way out of exploitation, losing the conqueror potential revenue, and we can't have THAT). This “White Peril” savagely plagued every nation on earth and took two forms:

1) the initial physical assault of the European war machine designed to break, “season,” and smash the nonwhites into a submissive state ripe for exploitation

2) the ideological indoctrination of that submissive state on the mental level.

For the former, Mills was kind enough to coldly, clinically, chillingly, remind us of certain devastating examples, and even pull others from the deep dark of centuries past. In the latter – the era we are currently in – he deftly points out the many, many examples of how the breaking has become fully part of our cultural identity, as the conqueror so wished. But the effects of chattel enslavement, jim crow, and institutional disenfranchisement upon the exploited classes are well known to students of Western history from that distressed viewpoint.

What was far more interesting to me was how these diabolical practices affected the oppressor himself. One of the perks of being the signatory of the Racial Contract is a deliberately imposed veil of ignorance, enabling one to pretend that the vast atrocities that make up the skeletal structure of Western Civilization never happened, with the gross societal imbalances being natural or genetic in origin as the official stance supported by all influential Eurocentric institutions. This personally went a LONG way towards understanding certain behaviors, like why they get mad whenever their historical wrongs are brought up and act as if it is somehow unfair, why they think the weird term “playing the race card” is a legitimate tool of argument, why they get instantly defensive whenever they hear members of the exploited classes celebrating and affirming their own skills, talents & worth, and even why they feel that the current state of a broken exploited people is the way they’ve always been.

Most of all, The Racial Contract showed how we will never finally overcome racism while the proposed solution from the conqueror class is for the exploited to simply shut up talking about it and accept the state its members find themselves in, as lesser persons requiring the conqueror’s merciful, legitimizing gaze to allow them into the ‘club’ of favor. Of course to continue in this state is unacceptable, but the only way it can be reversed is for that side to willingly set aside its ill-gotten artificial privileges and, as J.A. Rogers would say, transform “from superman to man.” In order to do this he must confront himself, recognize who he is, what he has done, and want to self-correct. He will have to go through pain to purge himself of the mantle of “Whiteness,” the political ideology of White Supremacy that he built this Eurocentric Society upon. And realistically why would he do that? He's oft demonstrated that he would much rather create a fantasyland Whitopia and live there, reinforcing his supremacist self-indoctrination with like minds, than deal with the truth of the reality he created. Mills’ book shows us how truly difficult curing our society of its Greatest Disease will truly be.

Mistress Pussycat: Adventures With Submissive Men In The World Of Femdom, by Joyce Snyder

THIS BDSM EXPOSÉ, written as memoir, reveals the wild world of femdom: dominant females and the submissive guys who crave them. Joyce Snyder encounters dozens of “subs,” fellows who want to be used and abused at the hands of a powerful woman. She finds a multitude of men, typically living a secret life, throughout America, and discovers their erotic preference (submitting to the superior domme) is more prevalent than she’d imagined. The author, a 60-year-old, cat-loving spinster, would never have become a lifestyle domme (only pro dommes are paid) were it not for her latest work assignment―editing a magazine for submissive men. To research her audience, she investigates femdom (as female domination is called in popular culture). Certain that she’s discovered her true nature, Joyce begins experimenting with various facets of female domination. She begins interacting with submissive men―teasing, humiliating, demanding. Now the youthful appearing Senior is pursued by submissive men far younger and wealthier than she could otherwise attract. Determined to master the art of dominance, she attends a convention of Adult Babies, joins a spanking society, gets served by sissy maids, learns how to penetrate a man with a strap-on device, rides a human horse steered by a penis lead, dates a wealthy man who craves electroshocks to his genitals, and acquires a slave. She details many aspects of femdom including ClubFEM (with its slogan “Women Enslaving Men”), male chastity devices, a BDSM resort where women rule, consensual slavery and findom (financial domination). With her newly acquired kinky expertise and superior attitude, it’s hot and cold running subs for this over-the-hill miss!

Review
"Snyder's sharply drawn portraits of the submissive men who audition for her are frighteningly real, well-written, thoroughly researched, and hot because she experienced or witnessed everything she so skillfully describes." -- Robert Rosen

Slave Clive crisply summed up the Bradley situation: “The chap takes you out and about, when he should actually pay for the time he spends with you, this part-time slave. A real slave expects his lady owner to benefit from his slavery, both emotionally and financially, by offering part room and board. Trotting about town with a real slave is just not done, madam. It is not your lover, friend or acquaintance but owned property and should be treated accordingly.” “But just last week you were advising me to marry Bradley,” I reminded him. “Indeed. He’d be your husband and I would be your slave. And there can be no sex between an owner and her slave.” “What about all the cunnilingus you’re always talking about? What’s that?” “If a slave is performing cunnilingus to pleasure its owner, it’s a service and not sex, as such. Know this, madam: having sex with a slave is far, far worse than pedophilia, as it is bestiality. You can use a free person or, in rare instances, a submissive man for purposes of copulation; but a slave can only give cunnilingus or massage, perhaps suckle the breasts if you order it to do so.” “Then all those pictures you sent me of penises enclosed in plastic and metal, the chastity devises―I know it’s a major fetish among submissive men, but what has it to do with slavery?” “You are a mature, intelligent and refined lady. Why then, do you not comprehend these are genital restraints? Their purpose is to permanently deny erection so the slave can concentrate on its servile labor. You should place your friend, Mr. B., in strict chastity to ensure he does not stray and only you have access to what would become your very own masculine genitals. There should be no argument over the matter of locking him up, madam. It ensures loyalty and service to only one woman.” “My Mr. B. channels his sexuality into housework,” I explained. “Since I have a regular cleaning lady, he cheats on me by cleaning another domme’s dirty apartment. That’s fine by me―the sound of a vacuum cleaner drives me to distraction. But Bradley is so happy cleaning, he’s sort of sexualized a certain apron he wears. He’s a basic service bottom and his penis isn’t even an issue.” “If I may be so bold to say―I think you may be deluding yourself, madam.” “You’re right, the penis is always the issue. I wouldn’t even know what to do with a chastity thing, they look kind of complicated.” “Don’t be ridiculous. Securing already assemble

Explore a different world
By Plain vanilla
Kinksters refer to those who do not practice some kind of fetish as "plain vanilla," whether they be hetero, bi, gay, or lesbian. The author who is plain vanilla primarily researched the domme/slave relationship to understand this lifestyle and maybe considered entering into such a relationship
Her negotiations with slaves was identical to what any plain vanilla couple would have to consider: children, finances, pets, on and on. The kinkster practices for the most part seemed to fill basic needs and provide satisfaction. This memoir is essentially about relationships in all their complexity. It does help understand what plain vanillas would not usually grasp. For example, whippings are designed to produce maximum pain without inflicting serious injury. This reminds me of the release that comes after holding a yoga position for a long time.
The most shocking part of the book is her description of ronins, dismissed and abandoned slaves who are not then able to lead independent and productive lives. One such slave reminded me of Fassbender's movie "Fox and Friends," where the victim (played by Fassbender) finally commits suicide.
This book is very well written and very readable.
Mistress Pussycat took a very interesting trip. She invites you along. I recommend that you do so.

Lot To Think About Read
By QuixoticOrchid
When I read the back cover blurb, I didn't know what to think. I mean, a hardcore BDSM memoir written by a 60-something, cat-loving heroine -- yeah, right?! (I'll never think about grandma the same way again.) But this little trade paperback surprised me. Told in a comedy of errors, humorous memoir fashion, the pages left me not only entertained, but a lot smarter about the entire scene than before I started the first page. Some of the pages were a little hard to take in, the things masochists do to get off, but it's like the author learned herself in the beginning of the book, This is what submissive guys need and if you want them to give you what you need --?"

"...intense to say the least"
By Pacotin
Billed as a memoir, this book recounts the experiences of a spinster/pornographer in the community of dominant women and submissive men, a world held together by internet connections and club meetings catering to the men's need for pain and humiliation. The pain and humiliation range from simple spanking to total, abject slavery. All of this is vividly recounted by Ms. Snyder as she takes us on her journey from novice researcher to full-fledged "domme" (the term used to describe a dominating female who does not get paid for her services). The writer's style is smooth and quite readable, and the experiences she describes are intense to say the least. All in all, this is a worthwhile read, bringing to light a realm most of us had no idea existed.

Brilliantly creative speculative fiction
By Scott Stafford
I have read a -lot- of science fiction, and my favorites are the ones with scientifically-minded creativity and imagnation. Roger Williams is a master of this. His most well-known book is Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect, which is excellent, but the Passage Home series is even farther-flung, yet still entirely plausible. Typically, a story won't begin with a sentiment like this:

And then the last humans on Earth stood their ground and faced their fate as the sea rose up like a wall of damnation and obliterated them.

But somehow, Roger Williams can, and then proceed to tell a gripping story of the -next- 30,000 years, and do it all in a short story.

Humans. A frail and fleeting thing in the eye of an ageless machine.
By Piero
Humans. A frail and fleeting thing in the eye of an ageless machine. And yet, an intense and unique experience with every single one of them going by. You will read the thoughts of Bringer as he witnesses the passing of eras and, one after the other, generations of humans. Populations come and go, like waves on the seashore, with every human being living the time of their life.

Listen to Bringer telling his story, as he narrates what it was like to be living through the time of everyone's life.

This is the second episode in the Mortal Passage series by Roger Williams (with thanks to Elaine Radford for editing, support and photography). The first episode is available on amazon aswell (and you should read that first!). Also, if you like big picture sci-fi. i strongly suggest you read his short novel the "Metamorphosis Of Prime Intellect".
If you like this story, be sure to check out his site localroger.com where you can find more about his works.
