I'm still reading it (about 1/4 of the way through) and so far I would be giving it 5 Stars but I must agree with other reviews I've seen. I can't believe how many grammatical and spelling errors there are (or is it "there is"? Lol - I'm no pro.) I'm not a very good reader or speller and I usually just skip over errors without a thought but... I can't help but sigh out loud every time I come across an error at this point in the book because there is an abnormal amount that is very odd to find in a published book. I'm far from picky and am usually the first to defend those that make mistakes but, for those that have purchased and read this book, you have to admit, it's a bit surprising that a college educated/attorney/ Professional would allow something of this caliper to go out to the public. Maybe it helped keep the cost down by not having professional editing done. Anyways, I'm glad I bought the book. And very thankful that Andrew Branca took the time to write it and provide it to us as an educational resource so that we can better protect ourselves, family, and community. Andrew, I hope you keep putting it out there for us, with or without errors.

I'm not a reader. My mind tends to wander while reading most books; which makes it difficult to follow. "The Law of Self Defense" was definitely an exception! It is very informative. I found myself thinking "I've never thought about it that way before" and "very clever," several times. This book explains legal jargon in a way that is easy to understand without making the reader feel like a dummy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learned a lot while reading it. I've marked several pages and taken lots of notes from the material so that I may share with my gun safety students and fellow instructors. I highly recommend "The Law of Self Defense."

Really love this book! This isn't a "how to" book, but gives you more insight on how the "system works." The case studies contained in the book are very insightful - and scary at times. People who legally concealed carry can benefit from this book, their seems to be a lot of gray areas in the justice system. I would highly recommend this book,.

The most complete book you could get about this subject

This is a remarkable book. It tells how indigenous peoples have been sacrificed to appease the god of Progress. There were several ways to do it: genocide (by direct killing and disease), forced assimilation, invasion of tribal lands and disruption of indigenous social and economic systems. It's incredible the number of times that official documents and people referred to "progress" as a justification for ethnocide. It was "inevitable" after all that they would be integrated in our global society. More, it shows how their health deteriorated and famine and malnutrition were created as governments forced the introduction of more "productive" forms of using the land (through cash-crops low in essential proteins and vitamins, overgrazing, oil development,etc.).

I think the most important point of this book was to show how indigenous peoples were affected by European colonialism from an early stage. Contrary to apologetic assumptions for Western imperialism, states didn't stop war; they created it in some areas and worsened it in others (before 'pacifying' them) as indigenous peoples were dispossessed of their lands and forced into smaller areas to fight for scarcer resources. How some people (idiots) still think that these peoples are living fossils is beyond me.

In short, this is the most complete book you could get about this subject. Its focus is mainly on the impact of colonialism in the last 200 years and how indigenous peoples fought and are still fighting that. It's very well-written and highly informative. Five stars

A Great Historical Perception

Many readers may view the English novelists of the turn of last century as sterile and dry. This is a mistake made by the newer generations who have been beguiled by television and modern film making. One gains understanding and perspective of the past through the eyes of various writers and we can begin to see that so many of our problems in this world are of our own making. The social constrictions, the injustices wrought by the well meaning guardians of society, even the arts and sciences can conspire against us. Yet the human condition remains today just as it was well over a hundred years ago.

This novel is the first in a series of writings, three novels and several shorter stories, that make up the Forsyte Saga, a serious reading of the change from Victorian to Edwardian England and beyond. For those who wish to become authors, a serious reading of these works reveals how stories may be told. For the more historical minded, one comes to appreciate the changes in society and how they are wrought. John Galsworthy is a splendid writer and worthy of reading on many different levels.
