"This is the book that will set you straight as to which zombie movies are “factually” spot-on and which ones will get your ass killed if you believe them. Fun fact: zombies generally don’t run, but the freshest of the newly-turned will be much quicker than those already beginning to decompose. It is this kind of myth-building that will be the most interesting to zombie buffs, and which raises the book above a mere novelty and adds a storytelling dimension, like a documentary-style horror film that uses the conventions of nonfiction film to add a layer of realism. Not that the book is a narrative story in any traditional sense, nor is it scary in any way. It’s a tongue-in-cheek, strictly-for-entertainment coffee table book, not meant to be devoured zombie-style, but casually consumed in bite-sized chunks. That said, it’s awfully hard to put down once you’ve started. That it is rich in backstory will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Sean T. Page’s other work. Prior to this manual, he has released two other zombie apocalypse preparedness handbooks, and a number of zombie-themed short stories and novels. This is someone who has spent a lot of time contemplating a ghoul-infested end of times. The Zombie Survival Manual is a bit of a departure for Page, not thematically, of course, but in format. This Haynes Manual is heavily illustrated with infographic-style vector art and diagrams perfectly suited for the medium he is imitating." - From Midnight With Love

About the Author

Sean T Page is a self-proclaimed zombie survivalist. His degree from the London School of Economics has given him the skills and confidence to advise government and other public bodies on what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. He launched the Ministry of Zombies in 2009 and has published The Official Zombie Handbook and War Against the Walking Dead.

Great book for zombie ;loving kids

Everything about this book appealed to my 11 year son who got it for Christmas.The amount of detailed content, well written and also amusing, the themes and the layout,design and illustrations are excellent.
We live in Austria and my son is growing up in a bi-lingual, German/English, household. Sometimes getting him to read English books is difficult, regardless of theme.This is not a problem with this book, he has his head in it all the time and is now writing and illustrating his own zombie comic strip and stories while continuing to read the book.A recommended buy !.

Yep...ANOTHER Zombie Survival Book...

With all the zombie survival books to choose from, I think it's important to point out what makes this book stand out from the rest.

First of all, Page's Zombie Survival Manual from Hayes is very detailed without being overwhelming. Many other survival books are so difficult to get through, it would be easier to take on an undead horde with your bare hands. This manual is much easier to navigate.

Next, it's entertaining without lowering itself to cheesy humor. It's like a cross between an RPG guide and an Ology book (ex: Dragonology). There's even a test at the end, and a couple of certificates that you can hang up in your doomsday shelter.

Last but not least, Page is not someone jumping on the zombie bandwagon. He is an excellent horror writer, but his specialty is writing survival manuals. He has created a subgenre of his very own. Check out his Alien Invasion Owners' Resistance Manual, if you require more proof. Page ALWAYS does an incredible amount of research for his books.

There is a strong British influence within this book, but it is applicable to most countries. I definitely recommend Page's manual to my fellow zombiephiles, regardless of your Z-plan.

A must have for your zombie nonfiction section.

It isn't often I find myself in agreement with the other reviewers of a book. There is only one thing that could be improved about this book - it could be longer. Not that there is a shortage of information, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page is a fun read and over far too quickly.

The way the book is designed and written is a hoot. From the illustrations, which are far better than any Haynes manual I've ever read, to the little details, the hand print smudges which are in every Haynes manual I've ever read. This book is a testament to what is right and fun about zombie literature.

If you have your zombie books sorted by fiction and nonfiction, as I do, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page demands space on your bookcase.

Good, but with additional textbook would be even better

This book was the best I could find for expanding Italian vocabulary. I liked thematic approach and the fact that the book is not focused just on traveling themes (transportation, ordering food, visiting places etc.) like so many others. There are examples for almost every word that is introduced. Also, by keeping a simple grammar book aside for consulting when you stumble upon some "strange" use of verbs you are not familiar with, you can start forming real sentences instead of just memorizing a bunch of words.
At the end of the book there is also a small grammar section that should be expanded by twenty or so pages. It should also suggest what verb tenses are used in spoken Italian and what you can usually find only in literature. For that use I purchased Essential Italian grammar by Olga Ragusa which is pretty thin but is just enough.
I would like this book to have additional textbook or some word exercises so I can quiz myself and review words at the end of the each chapter. This way it is a little hard to know which words you have really memorized after few days or few weeks.
I liked Barrons book "1100 words you need to know" I used for building English vocabulary and I would like to see a book like that written for building Italian vocabulary.

Mastering Italian Vocuabulary (a thematic approach)

This was an excellent companion book for my casual study of Italian. It is somewhat similar to a travel "phrase book", yet is has more comprehensive applications of grammar and colloquial speech for all occasions. Included is an excellent verb conjugation "breakdown" chart and a highly relevant glossary at the end of the book. Having studied 2 other romance languages formally in college, this book to me was reminiscent of an indispensable auxiliary learning guide for second (or even third) year language students.

Mastering Italian Vocabulary

An excellent way of increasing once vocabulary. For people (like me) who have reached a basic knowledge of the language but want to increase conversational use through increased number of words. The book provides 24 different aspects in life e.g. Food & Drink, Art & Music etc with all its different words and usages in everyday life. I find that by just reading through one of the categories at regular intervals (say daily or weekly), I gradually retain more and more words and usages.

About the Author
Maurice Long, Ph.D. is currently a private radar consultant and adjunct faculty at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, GA. While at Georgia Institute of Technology, he managed the development of a number of radar systems and held positions of principal research engineer, professor of electrical engineering, and Director of the Engineering Experiment Station, now known as Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). Dr Long is the author of Radar Reflectivity of Land and Sea 3rd Edition (Artech House) and Airborne Early Warning System Concepts (SciTech Publishing).

In the late 1980s and 1990s, rogue sociologist Venkatesh infiltrated the world of tenant and gang life in Chicago's Robert Taylor Home projects. He found a complex system of compromises and subsistence that makes life (barely) manageable. Venkatesh excellently illustrates the resourcefulness of impoverished communities in contrast to a society that has virtually abandoned them. He also reveals the symbiotic relationship between the community and the gangs that helps sustain each. Reg Rogers reads with great emphasis and rhythm. His lilting, cadence and vocal characterization of tenants is enjoyable. Rogers's first-person narrative establishes a deep intimacy with the reader. Venkatesh reads the final chapter, but he lacks the subtly and nuance that Rogers projects throughout his reading. The insubstantial author interview on the last disc mostly covers material already discussed in the book.

Adult/High School—As a young graduate student fresh off an extended stint following the Grateful Dead, Venkatesh began studying urban poverty. With a combination of an ethnographer's curiosity about another culture and some massive naïveté, he gathered firsthand knowledge of the intricacies of Chicago's Robert Taylor projects. Early on, he met a megalomaniac gang leader known here as J.T., who became his mentor. Venkatesh observed and learned how the crack game works, and how many have their fingers in the pie and need life to remain the way it is. He observed violence, corruption, near homelessness, good cops, bad cops, and a lot of neglect and politics-as-usual. He made errors in judgment—it took a long time for his street smarts to catch up to his book smarts—but he tells the story in such a way as to allow readers to figure out his missteps as he did. Finally, as the projects began to come down, Venkatesh was able to demonstrate how something that seems positive is not actually good for everyone. The first line in his preface, "I woke up at about 7:30 a.m. in a crack den," reflects the prurient side of his studies, the first chapter title, "How does it feel to be black and poor?" reflects the theoretical side, and both work together in this well-rounded portrayal.—Jamie Watson, Harford County Public Library, MD

It was a wonderful insight into the reality of living in Chicago from the late 80's to mid 90's. Is the dialogue a little unrealistic? Sure, but in all honesty, I would have grown tired of reading slang, so I'm very grateful that he avoided that route. I am thoroughly looking forward to reading the floating city.
I'm not a terribly slow reader and I'm not the quickest either, but the chapters are long, so be ready for a marathon of reading. It is well worth it though. I feel like I learned a lot about my fellow man and about a class that works hard to remain a family.

This one is way better than Between the World and Me

This one is way better than Between the World and Me. Or you can say is the oppsite. The language is plain but appealing, little emotional expressions but strikes directly into your heart.

I also think the reason why this book is especially touching is because it's not only talk about the life of black gang members and those who once lived in Robert Talyor Homes, it also reflected the life of all poors, no matter he/she is living in Rio or Hongkong. And even more, you will find yourself in this book----you gotta face the ups and downs, meanwhile dealing with those rights and wrongs.

Really good book

I was required to read this book for class but ended up really enjoying it. It reads as a fictional book however it is very true, as well as eye opening. Not only was this interesting to read but it was also an easy ready. It is about a sociologist who goes to experience the slums and gang life first hand to learn about it. It is so bizarre to read about his exeperience from the inside.
